Beating the Heat
We just wrapped another memorable summer party in Sagaponack. The BAR Truck pulled into a beautiful backyard and set up next to Rolling in Dough pizza truck. In was probably the hottest day of the summer so far, but we had shade from the truck and a slight breeze blowing behind the bar. A jazz quintet with a killer sax player was warming up on the other side of a tent just big enough to give all the guests a little relief from the sun, should they need it. We unloaded our gear and set up the bar, and the host brought over a huge pot of mint asking if we could make use of it in a cocktail. A heat wave can always use a little more mint and the ideas were flowing even before the drinks were.
A small handful of mint leaves muddled with fresh strawberries in a mixing tin, shaken with rosé and grapefruit liqueur, topped with club soda and served in a wine glass with a mint bouquet and The BAR Truck had its first custom cocktail of the day(though not the last).
We poured from high noon into the late evening, when the hosts admonished the band for jazzy takes on Nirvana and Don Maclean to create a rollicking karaoke session fueled by gin and tonics and good company. The BAR Truck was the last man standing per usual, and when it was all a wrap for the night we had a few new drink recipes and more than a few new friends. Just the way we like it.
